you are a seven month old sunrise of gummy smiles<br />
you are bald as an egg and bald as the buddha<br />
you are thunder thighs and lightning shrieks<br />
so excited for bananas, hugs and<br />
our morning walks past the lagoon<br />
dear matafele peinam,<br />
I want to tell you about that lagoon<br />
that lucid, sleepy lagoon lounging against the sunrise<br />
some men say that one day<br />
that lagoon will devour you<br />
they say it will gnaw at the shoreline<br />
chew at the roots of your breadfruit trees<br />
gulp down rows of your seawalls<br />
and crunch your island&rsquo;s shattered bones<br />
they say you, your daughter<br />
and your granddaughter, too<br />
will wander rootless<br />
with only a passport to call home<br />

Overview of Connect4Climate Africa Photo and Video Competition 2011

The Competition: In the run-up to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 17) in Durban, South Africa this December, Connect4Climate launched a photo and video challenge on climate change People from the ages of 13 to 35 were invited to share their personal climate change stories focused on Africa around six themes: Agriculture, Energy, Forests, Gender, Health and Water - see all the submission on our Facebook App.

The Action4Climate competition inspired young directors from around the world to send in their climate change stories. More than 230 entries from 70 countries were received, showing a new world of climate impacts, solutions and actions to address one of our generation’s greatest challenges. As World Bank Group President, Jim Yong Kim says, “We will never end poverty if we do not tackle climate change.”
