Exactly one year since its official launch, Film4Climate returns to the Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), the most prestigious film festival in Latin America, with an exciting program.
From March 4 to 11th, FICG31 and Film4Climate will present a selection of out-of-competition environmental and climate-related movies to the many filmgoers, industry representatives, and critics attending the festival.
Ivan Trujillo, Director of FICG, saw the potential last year for the Festival to champion the green screen initiative being developed by Connect4Climate.
Much has been achieved in the past 12 months: from establishing a network of over 160 film industry organizations’ knowledge partners, to hosting high-profile events at major film festivals around the world, to announcing the Film4Climate Charter encouraging reduction of the environmental impacts of film production at the historic United Nations Climate Conference (COP21), Film4Climate became a recognized player within the industry.
FICG’s commitment to an environmentally conscious film industry actually began seven years ago with the establishment of the “Muestra de Cine Socio-Ambiental”, (Socio-Environmental Film Exhibit) in collaboration with the University of Guadalajara Cultural Center, which featured around 100 environmental films during the last six years.
In 2015, the festival raised its commitment by hosting the Film4Climate launch and insisting on climate-focused practices, such as printing fewer materials and reducing the environmental impact of the event itself.
The Film4Climate section at FICG this year will include screenings of “Sila and the Gatekeepers of the Arctic”, “How to Change the World”, “Landfill Harmonic”, “Racing Extinction” and many other movies, followed by dedicated Q&A sessions with the filmmakers and high-profile speakers and ambassadors, including actresses and activists Bianca Jagger, Victoria Abril, and Assumpta Serna. Films do so much to influence our behaviors and shape our habits. They can play a pivotal role in raising public awareness about climate change and delivering effective calls for climate action.
Connect4climate is honored to continue the successful knowledge partnership with the Guadalajara International Film Festival and the University of Guadalajara.
