Empowering young people to engage meaningfully with climate issues has long been a top priority for the Connect4Climate team. In the wake of our #Youth4ClimateLive webinar series and with many vital events fast approaching on the climate calendar—both in-person and virtual—we thought now would be the perfect time to scale up our #YouthTakeover initiative and invite YOU to be a part of it!
What is a #YouthTakeover? Basically, it’s an opportunity for inquisitive young people studying communications to assume control of Connect4Climate’s social media channels during a major climate event, reporting out on the topics under discussion and framing what they’ve learned through their unique personal lenses. The #YouthTakeover initiative therefore both enables you to expand your knowledge of climate issues and to harness your communications skills to impart your biggest takeaways to your peers.
In past years, we’ve done Youth Takeovers on site at events around the world, from Singapore and Bangkok to New York to Madrid, giving participating students a chance to create GIFs and videos, live-tweet panels and other happenings, get hands-on in workshops, and collaborate with us on reflection articles. Moving forward, we’ll be balancing these in-person engagements with virtual takeovers, which means we’ll be able to draw on an even wider geographical pool of talented youth correspondents.
