The Mall, Washington, D.C.—Today the sun is shining down on the Mall in Washington, D.C. and the forecast for the next few days is stellar. We’ve missed the storm predicted to ruin our parade!
We couldn’t be more excited. The Alcantara Magic Garden-Connect4Climate pavilion is open and receiving visitors! The solar panel field, the first time the National Mall has been powered up by the sun, is up and running. Several groups of school kids, ages 10+, are scheduled to visit, take selfies, and declare their climate promises. (We call this an “action4climate”!) We’ll put all the promises on a wall, take photos, and keep you updated on all the commitments.
Tomorrow, we’ll hear more commitments as industry leaders, heads of business, movie stars, and rock stars take the stage in the big festivities on Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day. We’re particular excited to welcome ambassador to the United Nations Environment Program Don Cheadle (and fantastic actor - Hotel Rwanda!), who will be announcing the winners of the Action4Climate, the competition that attracted more than 230 filmmakers from 70 countries told their own climate stories in a stunning array of creativity and variety.
Don will also be introducing Monica Ord, the producer and visionary behind the film Chloe & Theo, which we premiered just two nights ago. In this charming movie, an Inuit traveled from his tiny hometown in the Canadian Arctic to New York City with a message from his elders: Our world is melting. Help.
If you can’t make it to Washington, D.C. this weekend, you can follow all the activities with #TakeOn and on Google, where all the festivities will be livestreamed.
