We may be closing in on the final episode of the #Youth4ClimateLive Series, but our journey to COP26 is just getting started! Next on the horizon is the landmark Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition event, which the Government of Italy will host in Milan from Sep. 28-30 and which will bring together some 400 young climate leaders from all over the globe—two from each of the 197 member-countries of the UNFCCC.
Do you have what it takes to represent your homeland at this one-of-a-kind session leading into the Pre-COP Summit this October? If so, there are two easy ways to share your perspective and earn your place in Milan!
1. Submit an application. If you have a proven history of climate leadership in your community, we want to hear from you! Applications for the Driving Ambition event have been extended, but you’ll only be able to submit through March 14, so you have to act fast. Follow the instructions and let us know how you’re working toward a sustainable future and inspiring other young people to follow your example. If you have questions concerning the application process, please direct them to youthenvoy@un.org.
2. Enter the #SumItUp competition. If you pride yourself on compelling communications and digital storytelling skills, the #SumItUp competition may be the route for you! Here, all you have to do is creatively sum up your top takeaways from your favorite episode in the #Youth4ClimateLive Series, presenting them via either an original infographic or one-minute video. You have a little extra time with this option—the competition is open through March 31—so if you want to cover the final episode in the Series, “Driving Local Action” on February 26, you’re more than welcome!
The only eligibility requirement is that you be between the ages of 15 and 29. Those selected from the application process and one #SumItUp winner will get the chance to participate in fast-paced working groups with other #Youth4Climate champions and, ultimately, to present their perspectives to the Ministers attending October’s Pre-COP26 Summit! This is your opportunity to be a part of international climate negotiations and to help make 2021 a watershed year for climate ambition.
Whichever route you decide to pursue—maybe both?—we wish you the best of luck putting together your materials. And if you know of any others who might appreciate this kind of opportunity, don’t hesitate to spread the word on social media. Let's make Youth4Climate: Driving Ambition an event to remember!
