Following the awards ceremonies we have held at various World Bank offices in Africa, including Kenya and Egypt, the Connect4Climate team was thrilled to honor US-based Paul Ndiho and Anab Garab at the World Bank offices in Washington, DC. This was a treat for us, as it was the second time that the team has been able to meet the winners from our photo/video competition. Last year, we had the pleasure of meeting Max Thabiso Edkins and Alphose Karenzi at the awards ceremony in Durban during COP17.
Andrew Steer, World Bank's Special Envoy for Climate Change and Cyril Muller, Vice President of External Affairs were on hand to present the prizes to the winners.
Paul Ndiho from Uganda, won the third place award for his video, "Cheap light for Africa." Paul documented the processes for making cheap light based on found materials like CDs and LED light bulbs.
Anab Garab took home third place for her beautiful photo, "And there's still hope" that she shot while traveling and working in Somalia.
Both of their acceptance speeches are presented below.
