"Our Future Has Been Served" by Nico Eloranta.
We are excited to announce the winner of the sixth week of our competition: Nico Eloranta in Helsinki, Finland! Nico told us about his environmentally-themed artwork made from recycled materials and found objects. Nico's sculpture, pictured below, depicts polar bears separated by gulfs between glaciers.
Nico had this to say about his work:
I have been a artist since 2001. My main medium has been glass in many forms: glass blowing, hot glass sculpting etc. As my years as an artist have gone by, and as I have gathered some knowledge about the state of the nature and have gathered more sense of responsibility to do my part in greening this planet, I have also started to use more ready made objects and recycled stuff in my art. Thats one way to do something in my part to greening my life and greening the world.
I have also included topics in my art that somehow tells people about the state of the nature in our days. I am not best example how to live a green life, but I can try my best and try to give something to people to think about in my art.
The art piece of mine "Our future has been served" is somekind of small world of global warming and its possible catastrofic consequence for the nature.
Nico was also kind enough to make this thank you video with more information on his artwork!
Thank you to all of our entrants. We truly enjoyed hearing how you green your life. Our weekly competition is closed for now, but we hope you will continue sharing your stories with us!
