On March 28, the first-ever MENA Climate Week will convene stakeholders from across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to assess the progress of climate action in the region, share new solutions, and work together to ramp up commitments. Hosted by the United Arab Emirates and taking place in Dubai, the four-day Climate Week will provide an invaluable opportunity to build region-specific momentum ahead of the global COP27 conference taking place later this year in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
As a co-organizer of MENA Climate Week alongside UN Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Development Programme, and the UN Environment Program, the World Bank Group will play a prominent role in the summit, hosting a number of sessions on vital subjects such as sustainable development, carbon pricing and policymaking strategy. Within this slate of WBG events, Connect4Climate is excited to be collaborating on a session exploring the role of youth in a just energy transition for the MENA region, with a special focus on inclusivity and equity in the implementation thereof. C4C Program Manager Giulia Braga will set the stage for the panel discussion, which will be hosted by young climate champion Neeshad Shafi, head of Arab Youth Climate Movement Qatar.
Connect4Climate will also be supporting a full program of youth-specific events spearheaded by our partners at UNFCCC and the International Youth Climate Movement (YOUNGO), which will focus on how best to put the goals of the youth movement into practice with an eye toward the upcoming COP27 conference. In addition, C4C will facilitate a series of candid “fireside chats” between youth leaders and veteran policymakers exploring the priorities of the Youth4Climate Manifesto and roads to their implementation in the MENA region.
We’ll be sharing excerpts and key takeaways from all of these important discussions on our Instagram and Twitter, so be on the lookout! We’re excited to have members of our team on the ground in Dubai for this conference, so you’ll be seeing plenty of on-the-ground coverage and exclusive interviews with young leaders beyond our posts on the formal programming as well.
Join us in amplifying youth voices from the MENA region as we collectively advance the Youth4Climate Manifesto and build momentum towards COP27 in Egypt.
