OUR FORESTS, OUR FUTURE
Poem by Rohini Sharma, Year 11A, Oshwal Academy Nairoby - Junior HighOuch! Stop it!
Listen to me, you man YOU!
Don’t cut me.
It hurts, it really hurts.
Says Dear forest – the son of mother nature
And he asks,
Is green really ugly?
Surely not.
Everywhere green trees sway in the wind, Giving food and shelter
But you man YOU!
Love the charcoal and the timber.
Says Sear forest- the son of mother nature.
It’s time to choose between green and grey,
Between green jungle and concrete jungle.
Kingdoms rise and fall
But I grow tall.
I stand tall to support you , cover you
Listen to my plea, from the core my heart.
Don’t cut me.
It hurts, it really hurts.
Don’t destroy me completely.
Plant my brother who will grow even taller,
Who will stand tall to support your generation .
I need descendants not disappearance.
I am your future.
Says Dear forest – the son of mother nature.
For the future is gloomy without dear forest.
THE WORLD WE LIVE IN.
Earth;
The land that gives life its birth;
What have we got?
And what have we not?
Oh! The atrocities against the motherland;
Yet like a mother, it gives us the forgiveness hand;
Never we’re to try;
We made her cry;
And it is only her to go dry;
It is our entire fault;
We are selfish and we can’t halt;
Humans kill her to ‘gain’;
Days of acid rain aren’t so far;
What about the children’s joy;
All dead in our ploy;
We hurt her gladly;
We do it gladly;
We kill her;
But she gives us all life.
NOTE- ‘her’ means the earth
MESSAGE.
We don’t want industries; we want our world, our lives and happiness back. Only the folks of the upper caste destroy her. JOIN HANDS to stop it now before it too late as ‘what goes around comes around’. You are the only one to save us and HER. Take the pledge to save and help not only us but our motherland. RECYCLE, remember, it is only you. A drop in the ocean is what makes it complete. DO IT.
