In a world where Harley-Davidson is now offering an electric bike, Ford is touting an electric truck, and electric scooters fill city streets everywhere, it seems safe to say that the electric automotive industry has taken off in a big way. Formula E electric auto racing, which proves that electric vehicles can be just as sleek and powerful as their gas-guzzling counterparts, reflects a growing global interest in the vision of a carbon-free future.
The Envision Virgin Racing Formula E team, one of the founding squads of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship series, has long been a prominent face for electric auto racing and a staunch proponent of the ecological advantages of electric vehicles. Envision Virgin Racing’s environmental advocacy work continues in the run-up to this year’s New York City E-Prix, taking place on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.
As Envision Virgin Racing’s 2-week climate challenge—a social media-driven campaign that encouraged everyday people around the world to make small sustainability-minded revisions to their lifestyles—winds down and the big race day approaches, the organization is planning a special Innovation Summit for the last morning before the races.

Running from 9:00-11:30 AM on Friday, July 12, the summit will take place at New Lab, Brooklyn and will bring leaders of business and politics together to size up recent strides in the proliferation of electric cars and to brainstorm new strategies for continuing the growth of a sustainable, efficient electric auto sector across the globe.
Consisting of two back-to-back panel discussions, the event will include climate leaders of all stripes, running the gamut from Formula E Holdings CEO Alejandro Agag and Climate Group CEO Helen Clarkson to distinguished climate science professor Michael Mann and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Sustainability Director Mark Chambers.
This gathering is but the latest in an ongoing series of Envision Virgin Innovation Summits, which seek to use the excitement surrounding Formula E competition as a springboard toward broader climate action in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement and beyond.
