The high-level segment of COP 24 will be held in two parts. The delivery of national statements from Heads of State and Government during the high-level segment will take place on Monday, 3 December 2018, and will resume on Tuesday, 11 December 2018 and Wednesday, 12 December 2018 with ministers and delegation heads delivering national statements for those Parties that did not deliver statements on 3 December.
The priority outcome from negotiations at COP24 will be the finalization of the “Paris rulebook”, i.e., the framework of rules that will guide the implementation of the Paris Agreement. The World Bank delegation will be participating in over 60 events, announcements and launches.
The World Bank Group will announce new climate targets for 2025, including a major boost in adaptation, and will present analytical work on mobility, transport, and the energy sector. It will also delve into the topic of just transition, focusing on delivering effective low-carbon pathways to development. It is clear we cannot fight poverty without fighting climate change, including scaling up attention to adaptation, and there is a significant opportunity for cleaner, smarter and decarbonized growth.

MDB Joint Pavilion at COP24

What is COP24?
COP24 is the informal name for the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The UNFCCC, which entered into force on 21 March 1994, is a “Rio Convention,” one of three adopted at the “Rio Earth Summit” in 1992. Today, the convention boasts near-universal membership; the many countries to have ratified it are known as Parties to the Convention. Preventing “dangerous” human interference with the climate system is the UNFCCC's ultimate objective.

The Conference of the Parties (COP) is the supreme body of the UNFCCC Convention. It consists of the representatives of the Parties to the Convention, and holds its sessions annually. The COP decides what is necessary to ensure the effective implementation of the provisions of the Convention, and conducts regular reviews to ensure that real progress is being made.
As President of COP24, Poland will hold the Presidency of the Climate Convention for the third time, taking over the COP23 Presidency from the Republic of Fiji
