CanadaPlanet in Focus Environmental Film Festival (PIF) is Canada’s premier environmental film festival. Now in its 17th year, the festival has evolved to include year-round programming including a monthly screening series and national and international tour stops. The annual festival takes place every October in Toronto and features films with an environmental theme, an industry series, and a school program.
Planet in Focus 2018 opens officially on October 25th with the Canadian Premiere of Slater Jewell-Kemker's inspiring Youth Unstoppable, a (self)portrait of activists from the Global Youth Climate Movement fighting for a better tomorrow. Moving from rallies, international social media exchanges, and appearances at Climate Change Conferences around the world, the acclaimed film made its premiere in Cannes as part of the Film4Climate program.
Each year at the Festival, Planet in Focus screens over 75 of the finest Canadian and International films. Whether drama, documentary, experimental or animation, films are selected to entertain, educate and inspire the audience. A key component of the festival is an Industry Day that helps to inform and assist filmmakers through panels, workshops, and meetings with distributors, funders and broadcasters. A key highlight of the Industry Series is the Green Pitch Competition that provides funding to a filmmaker for the development of their project. Annual awards include 5 Best of Awards, the Green Screen Award that goes to environmentally conscious film production and both an International and Canadian Eco Hero award that recognize contributions to environmental concerns and environmental film.
