Global Green will roll out the green carpet for the eco-conscious stars and allies at its 13th annual pre-Oscar party on Feb. 24 at the Mr. C Beverly Hills Hotel. tHE event will recognize the World Bank’s Connect4Climate initiative, as well as the UN Foundation and Global Green Champions.
The People’s March for Earth, organized by Earth Day Italia and the World Bank group’s Connect4Climate initiative, took place in Rome last November to underscore the feelings and desires of many that wanted to express the need for more immediate and substantial action on climate change and to send a strong message to the United Nations Conference on Climate Change that was just about to take place in Paris.
Global Green will roll out the green carpet for the eco-conscious stars and allies at its 13th annual pre-Oscar party on Feb. 24 at the Mr. C Beverly Hills Hotel that will feature an opening act by Charlie Puth, special headlining performance by Stevie Wonder and dinner program emceed by renowned journalist Soledad O’Brien. The event will recognize the World Bank’s Connect4Climate initiative, as well as the UN Foundation and Global Green Champions who include elementary and middle school student gardeners who will help launch a global educational curriculum through a partnership with the MUSE School.
Connect4Climate recently co-hosted Sustainability Week, a series of panel discussions and events with the Hospital Club, a social venue in central London, created by Paul Allen co-founder of Microsoft and Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, that encourages the free flow of ideas and innovative solutions.
Connect4Climate and Urban Specialists from the World Bank Group were invited to present during the EcoCity World Summit held in Abu Dhabi in October last year. The conference brought together hundreds of practitioners focused on eco city development and low carbon planning from a variety of backgrounds including researchers, private sector, development organizations and students.
A coalition convened by the World Bank Group’s Connect4Climate initiative presented a gift of contemporary public art, Fiat Lux: Illuminating our Common Home, to Pope Francis on the opening day of the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy in December 2015, to galvanize action and drive global attention to the importance of preserving our natural environment and tackling climate change.

As the world looks to Paris for a global climate deal from leaders and business, another angle is growing which may help provide the political momentum to support the political decisions: blockbuster movies on climate change. Even multilateral development banks are pushing movies as an important avenue for climate communications. The World Bank’s Connect4Climate programme recently highlighted how to communicate climate change better in a special event pre-COP 21 in Paris. This included how films can assist in communicating climate change issues effectively. The short answer is films can help, but we have yet to find the formula for success.
